I have been told my paintings have a filmic quality, like still frames between one scene and another. But unlike a film, my paintings do not depict any specific place or time. They are open ended. The brushstrokes, in their many varieties, function as forms. Layers of paint are applied reverently. Slowly, the paintings travel through many states, until I decide to stop the process. There is a story unfolding in each of my paintings. You are walking into the middle of the story, with each element playing a role. The relationships or interactions among these elements are crucial. I am motivated by the visceral qualities of paint and how something so simple can still be rich with content and meaning.
