Somewhere between naturalism and expressionism lies my current body of work.
Naturalism for the raw plywood:
Each sheet is unique for its grain, texture, pattern, and markings. Details that might be viewed as imperfections such as bar codes, spray painted grade markings, printed stencils of the manufacturer, are accepted for what they are, integral to commercial plywood.
Expressionism for my painting:
I enjoy painting the immense unacknowledged emotional power of everyday objects. Thru the play of light, shadow, and reflection, colors emerge that otherwise are hidden in the banality of mundane surfaces.
