The inspiration for my art comes from having a passion for architecture and a keen interest in the way environments, both interior and exterior, can affect people's moods and perceptions. For me, dwellings are not only shelters, but they are spaces in which we develop life experiences. My latest series, which depicts buildings and rooms, explores this subject while also examines a vulnerable time in my life. In 2005, I had to move out of my home of 17 years. Not only did I realize my expenses were going up, but that I would have to rid myself of possessions that I had obsessively collected for almost 20 years. This upheaval prompted me to think about the process through which habitat impacts our daily consciousness. By doing so, I have recreated environments, cities and neighborhoods in my paintings that can be disconcerting in some instances, yet light and optimistic in others.
