The intricate nature of reality seems less overwhelming when I just breathe
As seen through lenses of installation

My thoughts are dominated by a fascination with the intricate nature of reality and the influence of consciousness in the creation and perception of our experiences.

I'm captivated by the dynamic relationship that exists between our thoughts and experiences, particularly the role that our thoughts play in the creation of what we experience. My study of these concepts focuses on the process of transforming the invisible to the visible, and the un-manifest to the manifest.

In my paintings, I combine the intangible with the tangible. Delicate, ethereal forms reference the intangible realm of thought, while more substantial, organic forms symbolize the natural world. The treatment of these forms ranges from being clearly rendered to unclear and faint. This parallels our experiences and perceptions, which can be clear or unclear, depending on our level of attention in the present moment.

While certain areas of the paintings are infused with a glowing light, expressing potential and possibility, imaginary forms are also depicted within the dark terrains representing the mysterious and unknown aspects of life. My installation work addresses how our thoughts affect our experiences by focusing on perception and understanding. Site specific, the physical structures of the installation require the viewer to walk a labyrinth like path to view paintings that are sealed inside constructed walls.

Utilizing a progression from being hidden to revealed, the first paintings along the path can only be seen through lenses that distort the portions of the paintings they represent. As the viewer travels along the path they are gradually given more information with clearer views of the paintings and an understanding of the internal workings of the installation itself. The path ends in a space where large paintings are in full view. The installation is a physical representation of the relationship between the unknown and known, invisible and visible, shrouded and revealed. It addresses how we gain understanding through time and exemplifies how our perceptions change as we acquire knowledge with experience.

The installation and the paintings come together to create a visual language that investigates the fluid nature of reality and the role of thought in the creation of our experiences.
