For me, one of the most enjoyable elements in the art-making process is the exploration of mediums and imagery. The materials I use range from graphite to oil and construction/sculptural elements, although I am most passionate about drawing with graphite.

I consider the images in my drawings and oil paintings to be "dream-like" and their juxtaposition occurs as in a dream. Seemingly disparate, they are tied together on many levels, sometimes psychological and emotional, sometimes cultural, and often spiritual. Frequently dealing with women, from a feminine perspective, the images originate from actual dreams or from photographs I've taken. The process is more intuitive than intellectual, the result of which is intended to be interpreted later by both the viewer and myself. Many of the pieces address the dynamics of women's relationships, marrying esthetic qualities to social content. At the conceptual core is the notion that each element of a relationship is distinct in and of itself. However close the individuals seem, they ultimately remain individuals. However intense and controlling feelings are, they ultimately remain distinct from the person holding them.

My most recent work combines abstraction and figuration, incorporating water-based paint, graphite, charcoal and/or pastel pencils. The work includes the layering of paint, loosely and abstractly. The painted surface call forth and suggest images, which are then drawn over the paint. I find this process very playful and freeing, while addressing the same issues as do my other drawings and oil paintings.
